The start of the Long race takes place in the center of the Agualva parish. Following the linear trail that connects the old mills along the river, Long race athletes enter the dense Matas da Agualva until they reach the fork in the Endurance race, the location of the ascent to the Terra Brava area that will lead them to one of Terceira Island's natural monuments, the Algar do Carvão.
Prepared to descend and climb a concrete staircase along a total length of just over 300 meters and more than 330 steps, athletes can face the Earth's depths on Terceira Island, visiting the interior of the volcano and marveling at everything around them. But don't forget you are in a running race and must continue your path, not getting lost amidst the beauties you didn't see on the way down.
Next is the enchanting and captivating trail of Mistérios Negros, with its splendid landscape marked by black trachytic domes and a lack of vegetation resulting from the volcanic eruption of 1761.
Soon the trail is left behind, and the long descent, about 11 km, to Biscoitos, with the scenic surroundings of wine culture, begins a new chapter... the North-South crossing of Terceira Island.
(And the next chapter continues in the following race...)
